VR Dev Blog 1 (Week 1)

2022-05-28

In week one Kunal and I teamed up to work on our VR project. We wanted to make a short but highly polished game worthy of being at AAA status. In the past I have made a small prototype in VR using Unity’s Vuforia pack. The game was a simple tower defence game made for google cardboard. The idea of making a game AAA quality game for VR was a challenge that was intriguing and I wanted to take up.

In our first week we were asked to explore the verity of VR games that are available out there. Druv one of our classmate asked us to try out Pistol Whip the game.

It was a fun game with a musical rhythm and at every beat the player is suppose to shoot the incoming enemies to get the max points. So exploring VR games started with Pistol Whip and went through Beats Saber, Super Hot VR, Half Life Alyx to Skyrim VR and Blade and Sorcery. By playing these games we gradually started understanding how developers used the VR space to maximize player immersion while playing with gestures to have different actions in game. Most of week 1 was spent in playing these to find was we wanted to make and how to go about it.
