Solo VR Game Concept

“Would you kindly” is a phrase that I have heard a number of times in the first Bio Shock game. By using this phrase the player is manipulated by the main bad guy of the game.

These series of words and the way the player is manipulated sounded very interesting to me and then the idea sparked, what if someone you trusted turned out to be something else entirely. Your greatest friend turned out to be your greatest foe. I wanted to capture this feeling.

In a number of game there is always an assistant, a helpful side kick that guides us through the tutorial and is by our side as they fill us in about the world and gives us details about the bad guy. Players blindly trust them, no questions asked. Characters like Claptrap from Borderlands, Paimon for Genshin Impact and many more like them.

This to me is the perfect opportunity to combine these two elements to create that feeling.

The Story of the game-

As soon as the game starts the character in game takes off a VR head set, feeling groggy and dazed. As they disconnect a small little AI drone pops up behind the player. It sounds like someone drained out of hope a long time ago but somehow feels there might be a possibility in you. This drone guides you giving background information about this facility and tells you how you can escape this place. The AI tells you that you the final objective is to go and disable the main control unit of the building.

As the player is heading to the main control unit there is a small opening on the left wall. For once the main character does not listed to the AI and goes through this opening out of curiosity. As they push the curtain out of the way, they realise that there are on the top most floor of the building

and below them they see people walking around with VR headsets on them and they this little assistant telling them how they are the chosen one and they need to do some task.

The player realises that they are not special and how this AI is manipulating people to do it’s bidding. Cut to black, game ends. Post credit scene reveal the Coffee Mug man.

The coffee mug man in this game is observing our player and is seeing if a person is given a “righteous” cause by the first person they see after escaping or breaking free from the system then how will people respond to it.

For the voice of the AI I was thinking of Baby for Five Nights at Freddie’s Sister Location. Her voice gives that low mysterious vibe as she talks to the player. I would use that voice as a reference over exactly the same.

In the given topics I chose Artificial Intelligence and Surveillance.
